new song: toro y moi - still sound

Ever since Toro Y Moi dropped one of my favorite albums of the year, I've been eagerly awaiting a glimpse of his next release. Now that Underneath the Pine is just around the corner (2/22 on Carpark!), the waves of absurd anticipation break like a tropical storm over the rocks of the first promo .mp3. The rocks are smooth. If "Leave Everywhere" suggested a shift away from the soulful glitch-hop of his debut to a more organic pop sensibility, "Still Sound" bridges that gap and crafts its arrangements to work in service of da funk.

This past Wednesday, while I shoegazed out to Deerhunter right here in Pomona, LA video-camera-having-dude Jon Casey was over at the Echo peepin the Ruby Suns and Toro y Moi. Being a chill chiller, he caught Chaz Bundick vibin out my favorite song from Causers of This, "You Hid" (You might remember it from Sebastopol 10).

Just a scant few weeks since our last edition, and sneaking in before the Holidays get here so I can work on my year-end list (oh em gee), here's volume ten of the Sebastopol Mixtape, our mix of new, old, and interesting music.



This month we're proud to feature selections from the ridiculously hard-to-track-down Pebbles: Trash Box compilation, a scuzzy 60's psych and garage rock set that's been called Nuggets' older, cooler cousin. Also featured in this edition: new music from Spoon, Hot Chip, and Toro y Moi--not to mention some amazing avant-pop from Sacramento's Pregnant, who're so good I put them here twice.
