Canadian pych-pop weirdos Walter TV have been on my radar ever since they started dropping absolutely stellar live recordings. Though still sans any physical or "official" release, Mr. TV has popped up again with a video for "Grandpa," one of the songs from their set at Anacortes, WA's Department of Safety with the one-and-only Karl Blau.

The SEBASTOPOL MIXTAPE, vol. 14

This month is another healthy dose of rough-around-the-edges guitar music care of the Bitters' killer debut LP and Las Robertas out of Costa Rica. Karl Blau's "Spin Around" is a shifty snake of a tune that makes excellent use of a reverb-drenched and reversed trumpet which may sound a little out of place coming after the Nation of Ulysses' old-school DC hardcore classic "Today I Met the Girl I'm Going to Marry." Also: more Old Music From Around the World with Yuzo Kayama and his mean Japanese surf guitar, as well as Kim Sun's otherworldly "The Man Who Must Leave."

Best Thing Ever: Luke Temple Covers "Doctor Robert"

This week's edition of IGIF's "Thursdays and Covers" feature contained this overlooked gem, Here We Go Magic's Luke Temple doing a languid glitched-out rendition of "Doctor Robert" for Mojo Magazine's early-aughts tribute to Revolver.



The most immediate reference would seem to be Karl Blau's so-weird-it-works Dance Positive, sharing that record's paring of lazy basement synths with clickity-clackity percussion and miscellaneous electronic gurgles filling in the negative space. It's oddly compelling, and if nothing else brings renewed appreciation for the original melody's airtight brilliance.

New Music: Hospitality - "Argonauts"

Karl Blau-approved Brooklyn indie poppers Hospitality have been getting some good ol'-fashioned blog love recently following the release of their self-released debut EP (which you can only buy at shows, or by shooting them a message on their MySpace), recorded by Blau on a four-track.



"Argonauts," the second track from the EP, drifts on the airy vocals and soft srtumming of frontgirl Amber Papini, underpinned by a slinky bassline and ramshackle drumming.

Also, dig that flute.
