I'm tripping the light retarded happy, the incomparable Olivia Tremor Control are back with their first new music since 1999's Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume One, arguably the finest piece of psychedelia in the last 20 years. "The Game You Play is In Your Head, Parts 1, 2 & 3" sounds like an Olivia Tremor Control we haven't heard since way back in the early Elephant 6 era, with relatively few moving parts compared to the overwhelming swirl of Foliage.

None of which is to say that the track is a disappointment. While the sonic palette finds them closer to their humbler beginnings, Will Hart and company display melodic chops that their younger selves couldn't touch. All this has me practically frothing with anticipation for their set at FYF Fest this weekend. Hear the new song over at NPR.

THE SEBASTOPOL MIXTAPE, vol. 17

Hey everybody. Here at the beginning of November it is but the waning days of Fall, and so naturally in Southern California it's going to be 95 degrees today. I've had my head simultaneously abroad and in the past these past few months, and this mixtape reflects that more than any I've made yet. Chill out to funky sounds from around the world in the late 60's/70's with cuts from the Nigeria Special series, activist Bossa Nova from Brazil, and the Politicians from the good ol' U-S-of-Blaxploitation. Also, new music from Beach Fossils, Dominant Legs, and Mini Mansions and the sorely-missed Olivia Tremor Control covering the Beach Boys' "Roll Plymouth Rock."

Best Thing Ever: 80+ Of Montreal Covers

Matt Jordan of You Ain't No Picasso really digs him some Of Montreal.

Some time ago, he contacted the Elephant 6 Townhall and they hooked him up with every Of Montreal cover--live or otherwise--that has ever been recorded.

The complete collection is here.

The post that so helpfully informed be of this is here--with a new mp3 of OM covering Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust." Yeah.

Some highlights: The Misfits' "Where Eagles Dare" and fellow E6ers The Olivia Tremor Control's complete "Green Typewriter" Suite.
