New Javelin - World MIDI Classics, Vol. 2

David Byrne-approved New Yorkers Javelin have released another funky little mixtape, following up their lighter Andean Ocean Tape with World MIDI Classics, Vol. 2 (you guessed it--there is no Volume 1), a globe-trotting spin through dizzy nightclub beats and maniacal clipped Korean pop vocals.

And in case you missed it, here's the not-as-good-but-still-neat Andean Ocean Tape.

Best Thing Ever: Dark Was the Night Live

Aaron and Bryce Dessner's Dark Was the Night comp, a shoe-in to top critics' year-end lists (yup, even in a year with Veckatimest), came to life earlier this month at Radio City Music Hall, with David Byrne, Dirty Projectors, Bon Iver, the National, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, My Brightest Diamond, and Feist showing up to lend a hand on tracks from the record.

Hey there. DAVID BYRNE

NPR has (most of) the show streaming on the All Songs Considered podcast.

Today Only - The National on the Dark Was the Night Comp

From the Dark Was the Night MySpace:

OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS WE WILL BE STREAMING ONE NEW SONG A DAY, RIGHT HERE! CHECK BACK DAILY TO HEAR A NEW TUNE. Dark Was The Night will be released on February 17th, 2009. Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National produced the album, and John Carlin, the founder of the Red Hot Organization was the executive producer. A total of 32 exclusive tracks have been recorded for the compilation. It will be available as a double cd/triple vinyl/download and will benefit the Red Hot Organization - an international charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS. Red Hot was founded on the premise that even without a cure, AIDS remains a preventable disease – and music is a great vehicle to raise money and awareness for it. This is the 20th year of Red Hot, and this is the 20th release!

Today it's The National's live favorite "So Far Around the Bend," a galloping accoustic-driven ballad that wouldn't sound out-of-place on a playlist next to "The Underdog."

But hey--that's just me.
